Μπορούμε να πούμε ότι η ιστορία της φωτογραφίας σχετίζεται άμεσα με την άποψη ενός παραθύρου, καθώς από το παράθυρο ενός σπιτιού στη γαλλική ύπαιθρο, το 1826, o Niepce πήρε την πρώτη φωτογραφία της ιστορίας - που χρειάστηκε περίπου 8 ώρες έκθεσης.

Πέρα από τη φωτογραφία και μέσα από την ιστορία της τέχνης, το παράθυρο ως οπτική γωνία είναι ένα επαναλαμβανόμενο μοτίβο μεταξύ ζωγράφων, πορτρετίστων, κινηματογραφιστών και εικαστικών γενικότερα. Από το "Young woman at the window", του Salvador Dali, στο "Rear Window" του Alfred Hitchcock. Εν μέσω των παγκόσμιων περιορισμών που επέβαλε ο Covid-19, οι σύγχρονοι καλλιτέχνες βρίσκουν νέα σημασία και νόημα σε αυτά τα παράθυρα που είναι τόσο κοινά στην εικαστική τέχνη.

Τα παράθυρα άρχισαν να αντιπροσωπεύουν τα σύνορα μεταξύ του εξωτερικού και του εσωτερικού κόσμου, μεταξύ της κοινωνίας και της μοναξιάς, μεταξύ της ελευθερίας και του περιορισμού. Ο Βραζιλιάνος φωτογράφος, Bruno Alencastro, θέλοντας να δείξει τις περίεργες στιγμές που ζει ο κόσμος σε αυτή την περίοδο περιορισμού και καραντίνας, αλλά αγωνιζόμενος να βρει μια πρωτότυπη ιδέα, γύρισε στο παρελθόν και σταμάτησε στην ιδέα της «camera obscura», ή «σκοτεινού θάλαμου».

Με άλλα λόγια, μια εικόνα με μικροσκοπική οπή, ένα οπτικό φαινόμενο όπου μια εικόνα μιας δεδομένης σκηνής στην άλλη πλευρά μιας οθόνης προβάλλεται μέσω μιας μικρής τρύπας ως ανεστραμμένη εικόνα. Εμπνευσμένος από αυτή τη βασική φωτογραφική ιδέα, ο Alencastro σφράγισε πλήρως το διαμέρισμά του από οποιαδήποτε πηγή φωτός και κατάφερε να προβάλει την εξωτερική εικόνα στο σαλόνι του. Δημιουργώντας την πρώτη εικόνα, και καθώς δεν θα ήταν δυνατή η παραγωγή άλλων εικόνων από τον ίδιο, κάλεσε άλλους φωτογράφους που συμφώνησαν να μετατρέψουν τα σπίτια τους σε κάμερες μεγάλου φορμά μικροσκοπικής οπής, και κατέγραψαν τη ζωή τους σε περιόδους καραντίνας και περιορισμού.
